Ushering and songsheet

This week at Westview Wesleyan we had an outdoor service to attract people from the James Dean Festival. Considering it rained all day, I think we had a fairly good turnout.

This week I did two things I typed out the songsheet for the bulletin and ushered. For the songsheet, all I had to do was type the songs into and easy and accessable format to put into the bulletin since we were outside with no projection system at all.

And for ushering I followed around the Head Usher. We poured water glasses for the worship team, then handed out bulletins to the congregation. During the service I assisted with taking up the offering...fun story...on this particular week since we were outside and they were trying to execute all tasks promptly, so they had four ushers on each side and after you passed the plate down your row you were supposed to move down four rows to recieve the next plate. Only instead of taking less time it took more...to make a long story short, I ended up sending the plate down the wrong row and then the regular ushers were totally thrown off. So that was pretty fun! But over all I loved ushering because it forced me to get out in the congregation and get involved.

This week I learned two things...
1. You are only involved as you want to be, and the more you put yourself out there the more people will take the initiative to get to know you.
2. When someone give you directions, make sure you listen completly, otherwise you might mess up the regular system and throw people off...

p.s. Dr. Cherry-I did two things this week to make up for the week I will be gone for service teams - this has been approved by you :)

p.s.s. this blog is repeated twice for each practicum I did

This week I have the informational meeting with Mark Deisler (Ast. Pastor at Westview) on monday and then on tuesday I attended their staff meeting to meet the rest of the staff...

Work wise, I created a songsheet for this sundays bullitan. We are having an outdoor "Come as You Are" service to attract the James Dean crowd. It wasn't hard at all, I just had to type the words and put it in an accesible format.

That all for this week
